Case Study - An Investment Bank

Finance and Banking

Brief:
This investment bank had multi-billion pounds of assets under management. Poor investment performance, new distribution channels, and intense competition had all contributed to eroding the bank’s long-held position as the number one provider of long-term savings in the region. UBi was invited to develop a global strategy for its retail asset (AM) management business, covering both mutual funds and defined contribution pensions.

Solution:
A strategy was required not only to define which markets to operate in, but how to play within each of these targeted markets. Our strategy included providing:

  • visioning and analysis of global trends and market analysis
  • assessment of current capabilities and development of strategic options
  • facilitation and selection of preferred strategy

Results:
The client was able to understand the external forces operating on their business and make some difficult decisions based on rational data. Thus, the leadership was aligned to a common vision and the financial results of implementing our recommended global strategy were significant, with the increasing profit of the retail asset management business in multi-millions pounds.
